We’ve all had one at some point, a yeast infection.  That itchy, uncomfortable “infection” that we just can’t seem to avoid, or can we?  There are ways to avoid yeast infections, there is a “yeast infection diet” that you can use to help prevent your yeast infections.

First, we must understand what a yeast infection is.  A yeast infection is an over abundant presence of the Candida yeast, which is a type of fungus.  Now don’t get disgusted, there is always a certain amount of candida in your body and it is healthy/necessary to have a small amount.  Things get problematic when the amount gets to be too much and then you get the itchy yeast infection.

So, how do we prevent this from happening?  With our diets!  No need for medical intervention or a prescription.

One of the biggest things to reduce or avoid in a yeast infection diet are sugars.  The candida yeast thrives when a lot of sugar is present.  Keeping your sugar intake down will also benefit the rest of your health and any “belly fat” that you might have present.  Once you start monitoring your sugar intake, you will be very surprised to discover the number of foods that have sugars in them.  Also, when trying to avoid “sugars” don’t fall prey to most artificial sweeteners, they have their own issues.  To maintain some “sweetness” but still avoid the sugar trap you can use Stevia sweeteners such as xylosweet, truvia, and purevia.  You definitely want to avoid sucralose type sweeteners (Splenda™ as these sweeteners will remove the good bacteria from your stomach).

There are a few things to make sure you include when you are preparing your healthy diet to prevent yeast infections.  Yogurt is an excellent source of “good bacteria” and will help get rid of the excess/prevent the growth of the excess yeast.  However, the best way to do this is to get plain, unsweetened yogurt and add your own flavor or fruit to it.  Remember that the packaged, flavored yogurts also have a great deal of sugars in them.

Apple Cider Vinegar can be added to salads/salad dressing.  This is not only an excellent way to help prevent yeast infections, but it also has other health benefits such as strengthening your immune system.

Dark green vegetables can help prevent yeast infections.  Yet another reason to eat your spinach.  But you can also get the same benefits from broccoli and asparagus.

Those are some of the best diet tips to help prevent a yeast infection.  There are a lot of other things that will help and also more things that you should avoid.
